The Literary Society of JLNGC Haripur is a student-centred platform dedicated to nurturing literary, artistic, cultural, and creative expression among students. The Society seeks to create an environment where students can engage with literature and the arts not merely as academic subjects but as living forms of thought, expression, dialogue and community.
The Literary Society is open to students from all disciplines of the College. Students are encouraged to contribute according to their interests and abilities, whether as writers, performers, speakers, artists, musicians, organisers, or audiences.
Objectives
The Literary Society aims to:
- Encourage interest in literature, reading, writing, and the arts among students.
- Promote creative and critical thinking beyond the formal classroom.
- Develop students skills in public speaking, communication, debate, presentation, etc.
- Create opportunities for students to explore and document local stories, folklore, traditions, languages, and cultural practices.
- Build confidence, leadership, teamwork, and organisational skills among students.
Activities
Apart from the annual Literary Society Function, the Society organises a range of activities throughout the academic year, including various performances and competitions (such as declamation, recitation, debate, poster-making, etc.).
The Society also encourages students to explore the cultural and social world around them. Activities may include documentation of local oral traditions, folklore, songs, stories, customs, and contemporary experiences, thereby creating opportunities for students to connect their academic interests with the cultural life of Himachal Pradesh.
